SHORT BUT PRETTY CONCISE: Management & staff were great due to our smiles, politeness, thank yous, & real expectations. ” Many rooms were being completely rennovated as were some public areas. The resort will not look the same in a few months. Resort gave us a very good “bang for the buck.” The dive operator, Ocean Encounters, was fine, also with a good staff. For us, the resort was s a 3 star (out of five). In other words, we paid for a 3 star & got just that. Our problem is that we’re used to 5 star places. This trip was about $2500 less than a Beaches Resort. We weren’t exactly thrilled with the locals on weekend day passes, the time share people, & the low cost charter people. Superclubs manages the property but doesn’t own it & has little control over this. We’ve done the caribbean over 40 times. I’m 58, my wife’s in her 40s, & our boy is 6. He had a great time & liked the kid’s camp, dolphin encounter, ostrich farm, & cave Server+ Training tour. Punda was nice & “Dutch-like.” We renewed our vows is the very old synagogue. The circus show was good. The pools could have been a little cleaner. The beach was rocky but okay with water shoes, the food was adequate & there was no shortage of it. The weather was very good. We saw no rats or mice, & bugs were never an issue.Food: Jimmy’s buffet was awful and it is very dirty. My husband saw a cockroach as big as a .50 piece. Japanese was okay, Itailan was nasty and the beachfront snack bar let’s just say that the chicken sandwich was the only thing I ate because we knew it was 100 % chicken.
Bar: The small of fermented beer and juices everyday was awful.
Room: JR Oceanfront first floor in Royal Tower’s the bed was as hard as a rock an housekeeping came at all times of the day.
Resort: The staff was not friendly at all. They seems to cater to family’s with childen but then at night there’s music until 3:00 a.m. so if you stay in the towers area you will get no sleep.
Pool: There were cups floating in the pool for an entire morning from the night before and it needed a good cleaning. There was alot of sand in the pool. The jacuzzi was green for 2 day’s and they still had people in it.
Beach: Was the only thing that was nice at this place, there is coral in the water.
Tours: We went on 2 Klien Curacao was nice and we did a four wheel drive thing and not impressed. We had to walk though a bunch of broken glass and other garbage to get to a small cave with bats. Not our idea of fun.
To sum up the Honeymoon because I could go on and on do not go to Breezes Resort it Stinks!Let me first say that I’m a travel agent and have stayed at over 30 different All-Inclusives in the Caribbean, Central America, and Mexico. In other words, I KNOW what I’m talking about!
I was traveling with a buddy of mine that books dive trips around the world. He was thinking of Curacao as a place to take a group, which is good business for both of us.
We landed in Curacao and after passing customs, we went outside to look for Tropical Tours. We never saw anyone and walked all around at 9:00pm looking for someone. Finally, someone showed us where the bus was. As we walked over there, we saw a guy with a Breezes sign sitting down like he could care less if anyone was going to show up. He could and should have been right outside the door for all to see but he wasn’t. They have our name, but tell us that we must wait until another flight comes in. Over an hour later, we finally get to get on the bus and head to the resort.
Upon check-in, they tell me that they have no Tower rooms left and that our room was really nice. I’d sent in a request for 2 queen beds in the tower. Again, this is very late at night and I was tired from the traveling and waiting for someone to take us to the hotel. I wish I’d have just paid for a taxi instead of waiting for the bus.
Our room was on the 3rd floor and there wasn’t an elevator. Walk into the room to discover ONE King bed! I called the desk and all they were willing to due was for ME to come back down there with my luggage. Not until after I asked to talk to the manager, was I offered and Tower room with two full beds.
The room was outdated and no view, which wasn’t that big deal for a CISSP Training couple of guys. Had I have been with my wife, I wouldn’t have been happy.
Food was very basic and not much in the way of variety. Bar was always busy and you always had to wait in line to get a 8 oz cup of beer.
Diving was good and the Japanese resturant was great. Other then that, I wouldn’t go back there for anything………..even if it was free!!!!
We stayed two nights there then went to the Marriott, which was like night and day. I have great things to say about the Marriott, except the casino there has some of my money. LOLI visited Breezes from August 27-Sept. 2 and had a great time! My husband and I traveled with our 3 children ages 1, 4 & 7 and they loved it so much they didn’t want to leave. Details: I was extremely nervous from reading all of the bad reviews before going but I was pleasantly suprised with many parts of our stay. We arrived at the airport and there was quite a line to check in before transferring to the hotel but the Tropical Tours employee saw that we had a baby with us and got us immediately onto a bus. The whole process after clearing customs took about 30 minutes to get to the hotel. We checked right in and got a room in the Tower, facing the pool area. We had paid for a garden view but were upgraded to an ocean view. The room was clean and spacious but did have the musty smell many have mentioned. The room was cleaned and kept up well daily by the maid service. We had no complaints with the room. There was a small amount of rust near the tub and the paint was chipping a bit but it was nothing to get overly concerned about. Throughout our stay we were extremely pleased with many of the employees that we encountered, specifically Imara and Rose in the kids club, Lorna at Jimmy’s (she gave us lots of tips on fun things to do around the island), Norma at the bar (she calls everyone Baby Love and Sweetie), Roshario and Omar at the Circus area – my 4 year old son did the trapeze 3 times a day and they were wonderful with him. The beach grill was a bit slow on service and the employees there were not as friendly. The pools were cleaned daily although at the end of the week they were looking a bit green. The beach area also is cleaned daily but if you sit close to the beach grill there is a chance that napkins and cups will be blowing into the water near you. I recommend going down towards the pirate ship – quieter and the beach isn’t so rocky. My one disappointment was with the beach and it really is just my personal preference – I like long white sandy beaches and this is a manmade beach that is very rocky in spots and has quite a drop off. My kids could still swim though and they enjoyed snorkeling. We took the free shuttle to Punda and it was interesting to see the shops, we went to the Seaquarium (just a short walk), my daughter got her hair braided at Mambo beach (costs $20 for a half head with beads vs $45 at Breezes Spa). We rented a car and Cisco Training explored the island for a day – went to Big Knip beach (very beautiful with great snorkeling just a short way out), drove into Otrabanda (floating bridge is out of service) and explored the uninhabited part of the island. I highly recommend it – it is very easy to get around and the people we encountered were all nice. Jimmy’s food is decent – some things better than others – sometimes it’s hard to find a table without bird poop on it – there are quite a few birds in the morning! Pastafari and Munisan were excellent. At the watersports area it is hard to get a Hobie Cat – they don’t really keep track of the list that you sign up on to go on one so people are cutting in all the time. We only went 1x and we had to wait a few hours. Never had trouble getting snorkel gear, towels, etc. The Kids Camp was OK – the week we were there it was more babysitting than any real structured thing but we did drop the kids off two times and we enjoyed a little break. They are well supervised. The entertainment in the evening was alright – each night had a different theme ie, mariachi, carnival, reggae, etc.
My main thought on Breezes is that it is the Wal-Mart of the Caribbean – prices are low so some things are of lesser quality than others but all in all it is a good deal for the price you pay. It is really a place to go if you like to join in, try new things, see some interesting historical sights around the island and aren’t too picky about having perfection. It is definitely not perfect but we had a great time. We made some friends from Equador, New York & Wisconsin and we truly had a memorable family vacation.
