My wife and I stayed here from August 26, 2006 to September 2, 2006 and we had OK time.
The negatives:
The Japanese restaurant food is not that good, and if you sit at the bar where they cook the food it gets very hot and uncomfortable.
The main pool is very cloudly and dirty that you cannot see your feet in three feet of water. The pool bar lower half was closed most of the time, so you had to get out of the pool to get your drinks at the upper half of the bar.
The hot tub was dirty and green the first three days VCP Training
of our stay. They roped the tub off on the fourth day to drain the tub. The tub stayed cluody for the rest of our stay.
The volleyball pool looked clean, but food particles (bread, hamburgers, and other debris) were always floating on the water.
We stayed in the towers on the first floor at the end of the building. The sliding glass doors did not lock, and the toilet you had to jiggle the handle after every flush. We didn’t get alot of sleep as the disco plays loud music until 3 am. Also just across the canal (about 100 feet) is Zanta and Mombo Beach which on the weekends plays loud musice until 3 and 4 o’clock in the morning.
Positives
The food at Jimmy’s was good.
The food at the Italian restaurant was excellent.
The Breezes employees were very friendly.
The Trapeze show was very entertaining.
Snorkeling off the beach was very good. We saw many fish out by the rockes.
My wife and I will not stay at this resort again. We have just returned from our honeymoon at Breezes Curacao, where we stayed from September 18-September 28. Before leaving for Curacao, I was a bit nervous after reading some of the reviews. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but we had a wonderful time and I hope I can put some minds at ease about a few things. The only thing I must state upfront, is that we were there during the low season and probably not even half of all rooms were occupied……maybe things are different in the high season which will be from October tot March/April.
Hotel grounds: The hotel grounds are well kept, clean and build Project Management Professional Training around a garden and the ocean. The hotel has 6 different buildings that are 2 stories high and have outdoor corridors. The 7th building is the Royal Tower, which has indoor corridors and is 5 stories high. This is the only building with an elevator.
Pool/beach:There are several pools and a jacuzzi around he center buildings and a seperate pool at the Flamingo wing. The day we arrived, the pool with the volleyball net was a bit green, but they cleaned it overnight and all the pools have been fine all through our stay.
The beach is a long coral/sand beach, which they were cleaning and landscaping when we left. Beach towels are provided.
Rooms: we stayed at the Royal Tower, where we had a junior suite. We had a wonderful view of the ocean and trapeze, but unfortunately also of the skating rink. The room was spacious and clean, but a bit outdated. This past week they had started to renovate the rooms and hallways in the Tower and in other parts of the hotel. We hardly noticed anything about the renovations, they were really trying to keep the noise down.
We got clean towels and sheets daily.
Food/drinks: Jimmy’s buffet is the main restaurant, where they serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, midnight snacks and so on….
I’m sure that anyone can find something they like for breakfast, as they serve boiled and cooked eggs, freshly made omelets, pancakes, patties, sausages, bread, cereals, fruit, yoghurt….you name it!
Lunch and dinner are served according to the theme of that day, i.e. Mexican day with fajita’s and taco’s. There was always something we liked and otherwise there was always pasta you could order and the made it fresh with the ingredients you chose.
The food was never cold, but then again, not hot either. Everything is served at a ‘ready-to-eat’ temperature. Quality was good, I never saw anything that looked undercooked or overcooked.
The two restaurant were really nice. You get to eat at both of them at least once during your stay, but keep in mind:you have to reserve them! The Pastafari (Italian) serves everything from pizza and pasta, to soups, salads and of course meats and fish. You can eat all you want, you can have a three course or even a ten couse meal!
The Munasan (Japanese) is a teppanyaki grill, which means that 8 people can sit around the grill ( there are 4 grills) where the cook makes noodles with vegetables, chicken, steak, fish and shrimps.
Sports/entertainment: all kinds of sports and entertainment are provided throughout the day. The thing I recommend most is the trapeze, it was very scary to stand at the platform, but boy, was is great! You can aso go snorkeling, take a cayak, sail with an instructor on the Hobie cat, climb a rock wall or go scuba diving, PMI Training to name a few.
The entertainment team does a great job doing all kinds of stuff during the day and early evening, from karaoke to a absolutely amazing circus show! Later at night a different band keeps you entertained till midnight. Even though not all bands played my kind of music, they were all very good! They have seperate activities for children and as far as I could see, they had a good time. The ladies taking care of the children at the kid’s club where doing all kinds of fun stuff with them, from arts and crafts to learning different languages and kept a good eye on them!
Overall I would say that people are right when they state that Breezes is not a 5 star resort. I would also say 3 star is about right and the comparison to a Holiday Inn is not to bad, BUT…..
when you go there with an open mind to have fun, enjoy the sun, sea and sand and you are not used to top class dining all the time, this is your place! We had a blast, were never bored for a second, enjoyed many activities and did NOT want to go home!
