A popular promotional product for electoral and awareness campaigns, lapel pins are basically anything that can be worn on the lapel of a piece of clothing. Don’t let its simplicity beguile you; promotional lapel pins can be a powerful marketing tool. Both fashionable and functional; its use goes beyond the electoral territory. It can serve as an employee recognition gift, a club membership insignia, the flag bearer for a religious organization or a sign for military rankings.

The production methods for customized lapel pins are as varied as its functions. Some popular methods used by manufacturers include:

Cloisonné - Cloisonné derives its name form the French word for cell. The pin production begins with a copper bronze surface which is partitioned following the imprint pattern. It is then filled in with a glass-like mixture, then kiln-fired at very high temperatures. This ensures that the colors do not bleed. The lapel pins are finally hand-polished and plated to give it a jewelry-like finish.

Die Struck- A reverse die is made of the imprint and is then machine struck onto the metal surface. Die struck pins are beautiful as is. The matte-surfaced background bears a striking contrast to the highly polished raised-relief areas. Some prefer to have them color-filled with soft enamel paint. If this is the case, the pin goes through the kiln, is then hand-polished and plated.

Photo-etched – Another customization method for lapel pins, a computer etches the design onto a brass plate. This is then filled with colored enamels corresponding to your logo colors. The pin is fired in a kiln to ensure durability.

Screen printed – Lapel pin designs can also be screen printed directly onto the metal surface. This ensures vibrant colors and designs. A thin epoxy coat protects the material from scratching. Screen printing is one of the most inexpensive ways to manufacture a lapel pin.
